Hello and welcome to today’s sobering discussion.
Last week, we talked about why you need a mentor to build wealth. Click the button below for more.
Today, we talk the cost of owning.
Luke 9:25 TPT
[25] Even if you gained all the wealth and power of this world, and all the things it could offer you, yet lost your soul in the process, what good is that?

Ryan and Mia were the “cool kids” in school. They had the latest sneakers, the newest phones, and always showed up in their dad’s flashy SUV. They wore designer clothes, had expensive gadgets, and never missed a chance to show off on social media. To their friends, they were living the dream.
But behind the scenes, things weren’t as perfect as they seemed. Their parents worked long hours and stretched every amount of money they made just to keep up with their expensive lifestyle. Credit card bills piled up, loans were taken out, and savings? Nonexistent. Ryan and Mia never thought about how their lifestyle was being funded—all they knew was that their parents always found a way to provide.
Then, reality hit. Ryan’s dad lost his job, and Mia’s mom became ill, meaning medical bills skyrocketed. Suddenly, their once “perfect” life started to crumble. The SUV was sold, shopping sprees ended, and family dinners turned into stressful budget talks. Ryan and Mia felt embarrassed when they could no longer keep up with their friends. They had spent so much time enjoying what they owned that they never considered the cost of owning.
That’s when they learned a valuable lesson—real wealth isn’t about what you have; it’s about what you know and making what you know work for you. If they had focused on financial education, learned how money works, and built good financial habits early, their family wouldn’t be struggling. Instead of spending money to impress others, they could have been getting financially educated, investing, and even start businesses.
They dined in places rich and bright,
But feared the bills that came at night.
One lost job, one fateful day,
And all their wealth was stripped away.
Many people are just one crisis away from losing it all because they don’t understand money. This weekend, take time to think: Are you making smart financial choices? Are you preparing for the future? The best thing you can own isn’t the latest phone or sneakers—it’s financial intelligence. That’s what will truly set you up for success.
Have a great weekend!
