Welcome to today’s conversation. In the last two weeks, we talked on what money really is and the psychology behind it. We explained that money is confidence and financial education improves your psychology and use of money. What the psychology behind money also does for you is ‘influencing the making of money’ and that is the topic of today’s dialogue. Today’s topic is built on the foundation of the past two topics, therefore scroll to the end of this letter and avail yourself the opportunity of studying them before reading on, if you haven’t done so.
There is an adage which says ‘‘the rich man has many friends’’. How true!
Imaging a man who lives alone in a remote island with no communication with the outside world. The island is rich in foliage, exotic trees and fruits which supplies him certain vitamins. The waters surrounding the island is full of fish, which supplies him enough protein. And he has an abundance of grain which supplies him with carbohydrates, in-fact, he has all he needs to feed, but without contact with another person, does he have all he needs to survive? He may even think he has all he requires until a boat hits the island with goodies, he hasn’t seen before. Let’s say he gives some fish, grain and meat to the new-comers and in return receives clothing, medical supplies and a solar powered satellite phone…. Would his life have improved? Emphatically, yes!
He did not use any Dollar, Pound, or Euro to achieve this, he used what he had. And what he had was confidence. Confidence to exchange what grew naturally on his island with what the new arrivers needed for their journey. And by doing so, he also got new supplies which he did not have or did not grow naturally on his island.
That island is your mind! There is a lot in your mind which can be useful to someone else. You don’t have to plant it, because it is already there, just export it! By doing so, in exchange, you will get new relationships and other currencies. If you are saying to yourself, ‘‘but I do not have anything to export…. never worry! Just follow every article and it will become apparent the richness of ‘your island’. Today’s question is, what do you have in your island?
